Following the price cut for the 3DS, Nintendo released its second quarter earnings for 2011. There have been some theories that the PS Vita is making Nintendo sweat (handheld for $300 with wi-fi? Pretty sweet deal to pick up a PS Vita.) Otherwise, Nintendo has revealed that it lost ¥25.5 billion yen (estimated $330 million).

The theory for the loss are the falling DS sales, Wii sales as well as the failure of the 3DS on the market. The PSP sold a lot by the end of last year, and the Wii hasn’t really moved on the market, and the 3DS had a lot of refunds in its debut week in the US.

In addition, Nintendo has not released any major franchise installment as it is also working on the upcoming Wii U and Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword.
