What is it like to be all alone in an underwater world of the sea? Well, you can ask Naija, a lonely aquatic girl, who lives in the depths of the sea and seems to have no memories or recollections of her life. That’s where you come in: you control Naija and you help her on her quest to discover who she is and why she is by herself in the game of Aquaria.
Go exploring in this massive underwater world with Naija and discover little things with her music singing abilities. Her singing abilities even affect the creatures and help protect her from the perils of dangerous creatures that roam the sea. Find ingredients and create different recipes to cook new and tasty items. You also have the ability to ride seahorses and giant turtles that come your way. What’s more is that you can find different costumes, treasures, and secrets from Aquaria and even do battle with ancient gods to help discover who Naija really is. It’s time to either be alone or find someone to do away the loneliness.
With the touch of your finger, you guide Naija through this world known as Aquaria. As you play, there is an in-game tutorial that helps you with what you’re supposed to do and makes learning quite fun and easier. Though, it didn’t really tell me how to execute one move and that was how I was supposed to collect an item from a plant. It told me to sing the same color note as the plant, but it didn’t tell me that I was supposed to hit the note repeatedly before the plant burst. And because of that, I tried every single note before I realized that if I hit the note I was supposed to hit repeatedly, the bud of the flower would shake. Yeah, thanks but no thanks, Aquaria.
There is a bit of suspense in this game, namely because you are trying to discover who Naija really is. Learn to expect the unexpected, like turning into dark Naija and not really know what to do, heh. To be quite honest, it’s a peaceful game and the music soothing (just listen during the trailer below). If you’re not careful enough, you might fall asleep. I did really love enjoy the graphics. They are stunning, to say the least. The graphics provide for a mysterious feel in the game and I must say, exploring the secret caves and tunnels made me feel as if I were Ariel.
I must say, though, that I was a little hesitant in buying the game. After all, a $4.99 price tag on an app is not really enticing. But for what it is worth, the game does go on for quite some time, which is good for your money’s worth. After all, you don’t want to spend $5 for a short and boring game, right? So splurge a little and try it out! After all, though it may be peaceful, you can find yourself on quite a little adventure.
