An online feature of some sort is to be included in Thief 4, and will be utilising the Unreal Engine 3. There haven’t been many big details since the game was announced back in May 2009 however, there have been two significant new pieces.

Existence of some form of online functionality has been confirmed be the CVs of several outspoken Eidos employees. “Online tools” have also cropped out from nowhere in a certain Eidos employee’s inkedin profile.

Multiplayer may not be referred to by the online tools, it’s rather more of a reference to leaderboards or an update system for patches.
