Back in 2011, some ambitious person came up with an idea to build a first-person shooter in which 1000 people could play against each other. Well, Man vs. Machine came pretty close.
While it could only manage 999 players at once, the chaotic gameplay probably wouldn’t be effected much by the addition of a one more player.
You say it looks like madness, but if you really think about it, shouldn’t shooter games look like this? Imagine being in World War I or any full-on war; you’re up against a whole bunch of other people and there’s no order whatsoever. Man vs Machine offers an insane opportunity to be in the shoes of a soldier in the front line. Of course, you have the abilities to re-spawn and battle some tricked-out robots, but that just adds to the fun.
PikkoServer, the creators of the wicked technology behind this singular experiment, says, “Our goal now is to make this technology available to developers worldwide.”
Would you play with 999 other people?

what happens when 999-people play a video game at once? It gets super laggy??
Anyways, I wouldn’t mind trying the game at least once… seems interesting
