As of right now, the Wii U will not have the capability to play GameCube, DVD, or Blu-Ray Discs.
This is according to the interview that the Game Guys from news10.net were able to get with Nintendo of America’s Vice President of Corporate Affairs, Cindy Gordon. Many of the questions that were asked focused on the backward capability and movie-disc playback of the system. According to Gordon, the Wii U will not play the discs listed above.
Although this may upset many GameCube fans, there are still some perks to come with the Wii U. Instead of having DVD and Blu-Ray capabilities, it will instead have things like Netflix and [soon] Hulu Plus. I wonder if this is the best choice for Nintendo, but it is out of my jurisdiction. =/ What do you all think of this? Are you excited for the Wii U?

Wow, how unexciting. Honestly, I think being able to watch movies by DVDs is the next best thing beside the games.. I think it is not a great move. At least it will gave Netflix and hulu plus. I’ll pass too. Doesn’t seem that great and PS3 for me!!
