Games like Call of Duty and Battlefield are probably the most popular ones of their kind. Not surprisingly, these two games are the ones that make the most money in terms of sales. What is surprising, however, is that they are they only first-person shooter games that earn money.

TimeSplitters developer and Free Radical founder Steve Ellis recently sat down for an interview with Edge and commented on how almost every FPS game out there loses money. He said, “I guess Battlefield did OK, but aside from that, pretty much every FPS loses money. I mean, [look at] Crysis 2: great game, but there’s no way it came anywhere close to recouping its dev costs.”

It was also confirmed that TimeSplitters 4 would not be in development and Ellis states that “there just isn’t the interest there in doing anything that tries to step away from the rules of the genre.”
