Summer is just around the corner. The pools and beaches are being cleaned and prepared for the season. So it’s time for you to start getting beach ready…so why not start breaking a sweat with some video game workouts. Here are a few recommendations to help you get ready for the summer season:
Wii Fit and Wii Fit Plus (Wii)
One of the first games that comes to mind is the infamous, Wii Fit and Wii Fit Plus. This revolutionary game brought in the Wii balance board that has been worked into many games. With the board, you can do a number of workouts and activities that not only make the body burn, but add a little fun to your workout. By adding a little fun, you’ll be able to get the beach ready body in no time.
Just Dance series (Wii, Xbox 360, PS3)
Just Dance may not be an exercise game, but it will certainly get you moving and that is all that counts. Choose from a number of the most popular dance party tracks and dance the night away by yourself or with your friends and family. Not only that…BURN THOSE CALORIES while you SHA-SHA-SHA-SHAKE IT!
Gold’s Gym Cardio Workout (Wii)
Get a real workout in with the help of Gold’s Gym. Do some cardio boxing, running, and a variety of other cardio workouts to get the beach toned body that you desire. Not only that, you can keep track of the calories burned and your workout schedule through the calendar feature. However, a balance board is required for this game.
EA Sports Active Series (Wii, Xbox 360, PS3)
If the workouts above aren’t to your liking, perhaps this one will be. This game will have you running obstacle courses, doing some cardio boxing, and using the resistance bands in a variety of exercises to tone your body. And if reaching your goal wasn’t enough incentive, then maybe earning some medals will encourage you to push yourself.
The Biggest Loser (Wii)
Are you a fan of ‘The Biggest Loser’? Well then grab your Wii balance board and get in shape with the help of Bob Harper and Jillian Michaels. Pick the program that you want from 4, 8, or 12 weeks and work on your upper and lower body, core, and even do some cardio and yoga. In addition to the workouts, you can even train with a friend, compete in weekly challenges and there are even some recipes for you to try too. With a workout like this, you will definitely be on your way to getting that toned body that you were hoping for this summer.
Your Shape Fitness/Your Shape Fitness Evolved 2012 (Xbox 360)
Are you looking for a fitness game that does it all? Boot camp, cardio boxing, dancing. yoga and more? This game might be the one for you then. Your Shape has over 90 activities for you to do that will get you moving and move all of the necessary muscle groups to get you in shape for the summer season. Not only that…you don’t have to worry about a controller because it uses the Xbox Kinect system.
Zumba Fitness series (Wii, PS3, Xbox 360)
Finally, we have the Zumba fitness series which brings Zumba directly to your living room! Get your entire body moving with a variety of different dance styles, game modes, and routines. No matter what you’ll have a blast by yourself or with your friends, and lose some pounds too!

Hahahaha I didn’t realize there were so many fitness/movement-related video games!! Although it’s similar to (but maybe not as effective as) Just Dance, don’t forget about Dance Dance Revolution! :3
