The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has recently released a list of companies that are bidding on new personalized top-level domains such as ‘.xbox’ or ‘.playstation.’ So in future you probably will need to remember those domain names instead of simply ‘.com’ or ‘.net.’

The bidding on any domain name costs a non-refundable $185,000 and the winners will have to pay high annual fees to ICANN. Besides .xbox and .playstation, the list includes .live, .bing, .skype, .windows, .sony, .xperia, and more.

Holy moly, that is a huge sum of money to get a domain name.... but I do see a reason why companies are willing to pay so much.
