Yes, it’s called Tiny Wings 2. No, it’s not a new game. Yes, it’s an update. Wait, it is a new game. Bah, who cares. The highly anticipated new version of the popular Tiny Wings game from last year has finally been released and I’m going to give you all you need to know about the game (and how I keep miserably failing at the game!).

Review Guide

Tiny Wings 2 is all about using your finger to play. That is, you have to guide your little bird over hilltops while sliding and attempting to fly. It seems simple at first, but oh boy, it’s not. Leastwise, for me. Wait, don’t all birds know how to fly? Not this little critter. Your wings are tiny even though you want to fly, but that’s where this game comes into play.

You slide down hills, hoping to gain enough momentum to fly over the hills. And when you do so, you get to experience very briefly the exhilaration of flying before gravity brings you back down (literally) to reality. Oh and because your dreams are to fly, you best get away from the nasty clutches of night; otherwise, it’s back to dream land for you.

There are two modes: Day Trip (which is what I talked about briefly above) and Flight School. In Flight School, you race against your fellow mates to get down to the hills and into the nests first to catch the biggest prize: the biggest fish for dinner. Yes, you wouldn’t want to be too hungry when you sleep (because 4th place sadly doesn’t get a fish). In Day Trip, you must complete all the objectives of the game before you get to the next nest.

The game is quite fun. It’s adorably cute (it was handdrawn, I believe or something to that extent) and it’s simple to play! As in, it’s simple enough to just use your finger to tap or release in order to get your little birdie to fly. Ha, that was kinda fun. When you begin the first stage of Day Trip, there is a partial tutorial in which a finger on the screen appears and tells you when to tap and when to release in order to allow your bird to fly. Tapping the screen (and holding it down) allows you to fold your wings in and use your weight to pick up momentum. Releasing your finger allows your bird to open its wings and if you’ve picked up enough speed to do so, you’ll be able to fly. The game packs in a bit of luck and logic as you try to figure out when to hit the screen and when to release.

Overall, it definitely is a worthwhile game. Though Tiny Wings itself is $0.99, when you buy the game, you’ll immediately get the update, which is Tiny Wings 2. Yeah, a bit confusing.
