Mojang, the developers of Minecraft, expects that in the wake of significantly increasing popularity of the game will lead to a doubling of its annual profit this year. Last year, around $9 million dollars of profit was generated.
In fact, there was reportedly a lot more, but with most going to Markus “Notch” Persson, the series creator. He has since ceded his authority of development duties to Mojang. And he said “Since Mojang keeps more of the earnings from the new Minecraft versions, our turnover increases a lot this year. Our profits will more than double. Markus’ company will also make more money, though perhaps not as high a percentage as Mojang”.
Furthermore, the reports says that Minecraft on Xbox 360 has sold 17,000 units on average on a daily basis. This is great news, at a time when patch 1.7.3 has just been released for tweaks to crashes and visual issues.
