NPD Group’s conducted research suggests that the gaming population in the US has contracted within the last year to a low of 5%. Subsequently, it has taken the figure down to around 211.5 million player after a report was carried out.

In Gamer Segmentation 2012: The New Faces of Gamers, it shows that key gamer segments are moving away, and Core gamers being isolated by Mobile players who have been on thesteepest of rises - including becoming 2011’s largest segment.

In fact, it was the only segment to increase in users. Others who have not been so fortunate include Family+Kids categories, Light PC and Avid PC. The news comes after July’s findings of revenue generated from gaming falling by 20%.
