A recently released report claims that Valve Software could have been bought by Electronic Arts for up to $1 billion. This could provoke a lot of speculation, but it is not as if rumours haven’t been floating around for a while by now.

It reads in the New York Times “Valve has been pursued over the years by Electronic Arts, which would very likely have valued Valve at well over $1 billion had the talks progressed that far”, and were apparently from close sources.

Gabe Newell, president of Valve however, said “It’s way more likely we would head in that direction than say, ‘Let’s find some giant company that wants to cash us out and wait two or three years to have our employment agreements terminate”.

But you cannot rule this out, at over $1 billion has been spent by EA into social and mobile commodities. This one could have been another.
