A financial results briefing paved the opportunity for Nintendo to predict of the Wii U platform being sold at a loss. President of Nintendo Satoru Iwata said during the briefing that it will have “a negative impact” on the company’s profits.

He told investors “In addition to the yen’s continuous appreciation, the Wii U hardware will have a negative impact on Nintendo’s profits early after the launch because rather than determining a price based on its manufacturing cost, we selected one that consumers would consider to be reasonable.

The briefing also saw predictions of around 5.5 million Wii U units being sold, within the business year ending March 31st 2013. Despite this, there is good news within sales of the 3DS, after a profit has been reported to have been made.
