It seems that the rumors going around about the next generation Xbox console have some truth to them as Xbox will be trying to gain profit by blocking used games. Disks will only be used and copied to a single console and after its initial user, the disk will become useless.

“With the next Xbox, you supposedly have to have an internet connection, and the discs are watermarked, whereby once played on one console it won’t play on another. So I think the generation after that will be digital-only.”

For most owners of video game consoles, selling their old games are the only way to upkeep with the expensive prices of the new games so I wonder how that will affect the popularity of the new generation console.
