Popcorn and the movies. Television without commercials. Yoo-Hoo and a glazed donut. Some things in life are just perfect for each other. Video games and music are one of those things. While gamers are unable to control the requirement to earn that last gold trophy/achievement, they are able to control what pumps through their speakers while doing so with custom in-game soundtracks. To help change-up that stale rotation of old-time favorites, the Wirebot bloggers will be providing a suggested playlist every Friday. Our recommendations this week include songs from: Elisa, The Lawrence Arms, Gyakuten and a few others. More »

Oh. My. God. I don’t even know if i need words for this. Their first foray into videogame mash ups, The Ocarina of Rhyme, got Team Teamwork(the masterminds behind the project) quite a bit of attention from the internet. Combining popular Hip Hop and Rap artists with music found in Ocarina of Time created such a weird vibe that actually, in some songs, worked.
Now they are back at it again, but this time tackling a whole different fan favorite: Final Fantasy VII. More »

I’m installing Mass Effect 2 as I type this out (which thanks to checking delays will mean I will have been playing for about two days, but that’s besides the point), but that’s not really what I want to talk about right now. To be frank, the rest of the Wirebot staff can go on and on about their impressions of the game or the hype or whatever. I mean, sure, I’ll be submitting my review later, but… look, I’m getting side-tracked. What I’m saying is, something awesome happened when I went to pick up my copy of the game at my local EB.
I got carded. More »
Taking a quick break from gaming posts to talk about something equally nerdy, if not directly related; the music I like to listen to. I know we have Music to Mash Buttons To, but I figure I can take the time out to dedicate at least one post to this stuff. Besides, it’s nerdcore, and that stuff is gaming-related, baby. I can prove it.
Today’s post is about the Granddaddy of Nerdcore hip-hop, Damien Hess, better known under his stage name: MC Frontalot. More »
The best way to watch a movie is to best match your surroundings to that of a movie theatre: dimmed lights, reclined seat, cranked volume, and the smell of popcorn in the air. The atmosphere is half the experience after all. The same goes for playing video games. The thing with games is that the same setting isn’t always optimum for the game you’re playing. A game like Modern Warfare 2 is best enjoyed with a bunch of rambunctious friends; the louder and crazier the festivities, the more fun you’ll have. But say you want to play some Mass Effect. Well, that changes everything. The lights must be dimmed, the volume at 11, and you must be in the comfiest of chairs wrapped in your warmest blanket. More »

From Ningin: The year 1984, a long time ago in a galaxy far away, when a baby T-rex used to guard my backyard (RIP Dino), I had thought there was no way for anyone to come close to the theme song in the legendary film, the Neverending Story. What… you space monkeys are too young to have seen it? Preposterous!! Fast forward to the year 2000, Squaresoft released Final Fantasy IX. (Which is still today in the top 20 RPGs of all time.) Ok, History lesson is over. More »
