I’ve said the term “cinematic shift” enough times in the Mafia II diary posts that the CC would let me coin the phrase, so I’ll try my hardest only to mention it this once. Chapters 9 and 10 are when Vito and Joe finally get made. This shift changes everything yet again. With any open world game you are going to get comparisons to the Grand Theft Auto series. If you populate that open world with gangsters (whether they be from the 1950s, current day, or the Wild Wild West) people are going to assume they are the same game. It adds further fuel to the flames when it rings true with titles like Saints Row. I want to set the record straight though, Mafia II is not a re-skinned Grand Theft Auto, it’s better, much better. I’ve been talking a lot about these cinematic shifts that occur throughout the Mafia II storyline. The first shift occurred when Vito was stripped from his urban environment and cast off to Sicily to fight in World War II. Next came the prison shift where we got a taste of what it was like in the can. The current shift we’re experiencing will change the look and feel of the game more than it ever has as we shift to the 1950’s. More »

Bungie has just released the newest live-action trailer for the highly anticipated Halo: Reach. This one is called “Deliver Hope,” and it is definitely beyond extraordinary and intensive. There are heaps of enemies, explosions and special effects. This trailer is the third live-action trailer for Halo: Reach, joining “Birth of a Spartan” from April and “Patrol” from earlier this month. Halo: Reach will be released on the Xbox 360 on September 14. I just want to watch more of these trailers. Keep them coming Bungie! More »

BioWare has recently announced that Dragon Age II would be available on PS3, xBox 260 and PC on March 8 2011. Now BioWare has announced the ‘Witch Hunt‘ download-able content pack for ‘Dragon Age: Origins‘. The expansion pack will be available on PS3, xBox 260 and PC on September 7 and will be priced at $7.
