Who would have thought that Iowa would be “the capital of the world” for anything except silly masked nu-metal and corn? While Slipknot holds a funny place in my heart, and I do love me some corn, video games practically take up the rest. Maybe Iowa is the place I should be? Could be true, but the question remains: …why Iowa!? More »

Nintendo Everything has found Pac Man hidden in the LG logo. It always surprises me when people can pick up on this sort of thing. It’s like they have a third eye that can look at the world abstractly and bend what they see into what they want to see. This one isn’t as mind boggling as when you first see the spoon and arrow in FedEx, but still. More »

If you have been following my impressions you already know how infatuated I am with Platinum Games newest IP, Bayonetta. As a rabid fan with an insatiable thirst for more sassy English witches with tons of guns I have came up with some spin-off and merchandise ideas that would keep me happy until the second installment gets announced. One of the many pleasant surprises of CES was the low down on the addition of a Game Room to the Xbox 360. ESPN is reporting that a remake of the Mid-90’s arcade classic NBA Jam is making its way exclusively to the Nintendo Wii. Little details are known at this point, but we do know that original series designer Mark Turmell is consulting with EA Vancouver to ensure that the cult classic gets the treatment it deserves. Sensible Soccer was released in 1992, and whilst playing modern FIFA games it can be a bit funny to think back at the first FIFA, FIFA International Soccer (a.k.a. FIFA 94), released in 1993 - a mere year after Sensible Soccer! Though the hype was better than the game, it did have some original features, like the isometric view. Because of that view being much more zoomed in than other views utilized at the time, FIFA 94 was graphically one of the best games of that era. But the lack of gameplay made it drown in between loads of better games. However, the FIFA series didn’t die. Not at all… More »

Translation be hard time for people.

There is no denying that most of the gaming gold brought to the United States is shipped over here from different countries, but no one country gives us more to ogle about than the Land of the Rising Sun. Japan keeps packing our gullets full of their delicious gaming gravy and I myself can’t help but to come back for more. But like most foods, those yummy morsels pass through many a hand before they are properly processed and packed, and a lot can go wrong along the way, specifically in terms of translation from Japanese to English. Here are some games that didn’t quite get it right when they made the hop over the Pacific. More »

Sensible World of Soccer was made by the British developer Sensible Software, whose first footy game was the first footy game that had so-called banana shot, namely Microprose Soccer. Though being one of the smoothest games at its time, it can’t even begin to compare with the mammoth of a game that Sensible World of Soccer is - but, a mighty fine game at its time, I’ll give it that much.

Its biggest rival was to be released the following year: the almighty Kick Off. Completely revolutionizing the genre with an actually independent ball instead of the oh so familiar ball glued to the feet formula. Kick Off sported the same top-down perspective camera as Microprose Soccer, as well as a just as quick and brutal gameplay with smooth controls and a teeny weeny more nice looking graphics. More »
