Boy oh boy was the internet ablaze late last night with the leaked footage from the Halo: Reach beta that surfaced. Some thought it was real, others screamed fake, it was almost sparked a war as epic as the one between the Spartans and the Elites. It seems that a new UI isn’t the only change associated with the new beta version of Steam. Resourceful users over at MacNN have dug up some pretty exciting graphics in the program’s system files, suggesting a Mac version of Steam is immanent. The images are of the close, minimize, and full screen buttons used throughout Apple’s OS. After spending some time with the Beta of Starcraft II that I kindly was invited to play yesterday, there was a lot left on my pallet. While only allowing multiplayer play, either offline with bots or online against human opponents, I was still able to get a good taste of what Blizzard is offering up in terms of mechanics and general gameplay. Today the Official MAG Blog unveiled the box art for its 256-player FPS along with a few statistics from its recently closed beta. MAG was originally announced during 2008’s E3 and substitutes a single player mode for an epic MMOFPS experience. The public beta ran from early August up until a few days ago. During that period more than 42,000 matches were racked up with players traversing more than 500,000 in-game miles every week. Throughout the final month of MAG’s beta 18 million frags were executed, while 700 million shots were fired. Developer Zipper Interactive declared the beta a success, claiming thousands of issues were fixed during the games four month testing phase. MAG is due to release on January 26th.
