We often use facial expressions to show others our feelings about something, but soon it may be possible to use just facial motions to tell others what we’re thinking…when they can’t even see you! The recently published Microsoft patent for Kinect includes features such as the ability to recognize American Sign Language (ASL), “read lips” or analyze facial motions to determine what the user wants to express, and single out individual fingers and toes — advanced, much? From Ziggytek: The Kinect sensor by itself with Kinect Adventures game is going to cost what we have feared, $149.99 in November. Microsoft’s redesigned black Xbox “slim” will be released in a 4Gb capacity version in matte instead of glossy for $199.99 on August 3rd. Last of all, $299.99 buys gamers a Kinect bundle, along with the aforementioned Xbox console for $299.99. More »

From Ziggytek: Probably just a case of new gadget hysteria, but Microsoft’s redesigned Xbox 360 is hot commodity. It was long overdue for a complete revamp. Sony came out with its cheaper to produce PS3 Slim eons ago, and aside from shrinking the graphics and CPU die on the Xbox motherboard, Microsoft had done nothing since now. More »

From Ziggytek: I have outlined my reasons for believing that both/either the Xbox 360 Kinect and/or Playstation Move are/is going to fail epically, yet some of the same arguments for failure can (paradoxically) be used to suggest that one or both will succeed. More »

From Ziggytek: Four years after Nintendo’s Wii, which was laughed at by its competitors but has sold over 70 million consoles, Sony and Microsoft are hopping aboard the motion control bandwagon. Come this autumn, the Playstation Move and Xbox 360 Kinect will fail and prove that the Wii is lightning in a bottle, never to be caught again. More »

From Ziggytek: Unlike Sony, whose console does not hinge of the reception of its motion controller Playstation Move, Microsoft’s Xbox 360 future seems to be tied firmly to Kinect, whose specs, now revealed, are wimpy. More »

From Ziggytek: Fears of “Project Natal’s” high price turn out to be well founded. Ebworld is taking pre-orders for the Xbox 360 motion sensor add-on at $150, which is roughly twice the cost the Playstation Move! Microsoft has announced 15 launch titles, and at least five of them are full priced at $60 per pop. More »

Okay, I will be honest. Master Chief never really did it for me. The macho man, green suit, super soldier vibe doesn’t really get me going, and in fact quite turns me off. I am talking about my video game tastes, pervie. Anyway, even though Halo wasn’t quite my cup of first person shooter, I would be lying if I wasn’t interested in playing Halo: Reach. I definitely missed out on the beta, but thankfully I won’t have to wait until Christmas to get back into mediocre alien slaying. More »
