Conspiracy and mystery keep us on our toes when it comes to information about Funcom’s The Secret World. Scouring the internet, I found another site that is alluding to a town that is featured in the game. This time, its through a normal Blogspot blog named “Monsters of Maine: An investigation into the cryptozoological and occult events occurring on Solomon Island.” At least someone knows how to do viral marketing correctly(I’m looking at you, Dante). After getting super excited for the new MMO to be released soon called The Secret World, Funcom released to the gaming press postcards with only the words “Greetings from Kingsmouth” slated on the front with blood smeared on the corners, and only a URL leading to a site called simply www.Kingsmouth.com. Not all news relating to World of Warcraft has to do with morbid obesity, teenagers with poor social skills, and video game addiction. The media often reports sensationalized stories on MMOs when they need an easy target to pick on. But I seriously doubt they can put a negative spin on the $1.1M donation Blizzard Entertainment made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. More »

Are you absolutely sick of MMO’s being placed in either Science Fiction of Fantasy? I know for me, there is almost nothing new these days in terms of setting, not just for MMO’s, but for video games in general. What about the world we live in today? What about the conspiracies that plague our real world lives, the ones that pass by us everyday, from the American dollar all the way through history books on the crusade. I decided I would finally take a fall into the World of Warcraft. All my friends play it, everyone I know plays it, hell I am even convinced that most of you play it. I developed the “if you can’t beat em, join em,” attitude and took the plunge into the world of Dwarves and Blood Elves. Log. Day 5.

So I finally gave in and joined a party. The fights in the Dragonica mission maps were getting a little tough to handle. Raccoons with plungers on their heads I can handle. Crazy armored wolves I can deal with. But giant pigs in tiger print pants with huge axes? No thank you! This little thief had to go get some help. And man am I glad I did! Turns out that for being in a party has lots of perks. Apparently having different classes in a party gives the entire party boosts. I, for example, give the party agility (of course! You have to be nimble to be a good thief, you know). Another plus to being in a party is that the longer I was in one, the more points I received… points that I later traded in for more experience. So how hectic is a game where 256 people can play online simultaneously, on one map? Very very hectic. And OH SO incredibly fun!
