If you don’t know what Persona is, it would behoove you to do a quick Wikipedia search, read up about it, and then scour Ebay for copies of all the games. If you love Japanese RPG’s and you don’t know what Persona is, this blog post just might change your life. One of my favorite game series of all times has definitely got to be the Xenosaga trilogy for the Sony Playstation 2. Originally slated to be a six-game series, the number of installments was halved due to somewhat poor reception of the second game. All in all, though, this RPG series is definitely one worth playing. Find out why I think so… More »

Sometimes we need to be reminded of the sheer driving force of handheld gaming. I myself tend to forget my DS even exists, or how many awesome PSP RPG’s there are out for the system. Pokemon is a perfect nostalgic tool that Nintendo uses to lure us into their sales. I know every kid from my generation knows and loves Pokemon, and cannot resist the temptation of a new release (even if it is just a remake..). More »

My first 13 days with Final Fantasy XIII have officially come to a close. While I’m nowhere near completion I feel comfortable answering a few burning questions. Is Final Fantasy XIII worth it? Was it worth the 3 year wait? More »

Remember those days when calling upon Odin, Shiva, or Ifrit would guarantee the instant annihilation of all non-boss enemies. Summons used to be epic, their power was so immense that no ordinary foe would stand a chance against one and we loved it! So what happened in Final Fantasy XIII? Why are the Eidolons so pathetic? Bethesda announced today that they will be publishing InXile’s newest game, a third person action RPG called Hunted: The Demon’s Forge. The good news about the announcement of this game is not really the publishing side, but the fact that this development studio was founded by the same guy who worked on the original Baulders Gate and Fallout games. mmm, sounds tasty already! Though I ended up with Tali by the time I was over with my first play through of Mass Effect 2, I now wish I went after my secretary. I guess there really is something to getting bad with your co-worker, or maybe it just has to do with how light and playful her scenes are all the way through the game until after your done saving the universe. That is when things turn upside down and Kelly gets freaky. Check out a game play captured video of the action after the break More »

The game industry moves so fast that unless you dedicate days on end to just playing games and doing nothing else, many hit titles will fly right past you. It is also hard to play everything! Fallout artist, Brian Menze has released a rejected Vault Boy perk illustration that was cut from Fallout 2. The shocking image was created after a higher up requested artwork for the in-game perk “Child Killer.” Looking back on the event Menze can’t believe he ever drew something of this sort. Soon after the artwork was posted on his DeviantArt page it was removed. We’ve got the image for you below. More »

I’ve been playing a lot of White Knight Chronicles lately and I noticed that Yulie, the only female member of my party, had become my teams healer. I maxed out all her Skill Points in the area of Divine Magic which allows her to cure everything from HP to paralysis. This isn’t an original battle tactic, nope, just a newly noticed habit of mine. In every RPG I have ever played I have always assigned the naive girly girl as my party’s healer. Am I being unconsciously sexist? More »

What does Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, Grand Theft Auto IV, and Assassin’s Creed 2 all have in common? They revolutionized the gaming industry in one way or anything and set the standards at remarkably new heights. In short, they took it to the next level. Why exactly am I bringing this up when discussing Sony’s newest exclusive RPG White Knight Chronicles? Well it’s because WKC does nothing as well as those game, yet it’s still a very enjoyable game. It just goes to show that a game doesn’t have to reinvent the wheel in order for gamers to have a good time. More »

Welcome to Pandora! - Home of the legendary Vault. No one is sure if this Vault actually exists, but this hasn’t stopped adventurers from trying to find it. This is because whoever finds the Vault will also find what it contains: treasure. In the game Borderlands, you play one of four “classes” of characters. They are adventurers in search of the Vault, but they have something no one else does - a guiding angel. Borderlands is technically a FPS, but it is also an RPG… a mix of two game genres that I love! There are quests to do, experience and leveling, different classes, skill points that you can distribute in a skill tree, and an endless possible combination of weapons that you can find. The style is also something that makes the game stand out - it’s realistic but comic-like. It’s like a bundle of win.

Borderlands is also made to be played by more than one person. More »

I don’t know about you guys but I have had a problem with Final Fantasy ever since they released the ninth installment in their series. It seems like, since that moment, Final Fantasy has been rapidly declining in it’s challenge factor. The seventh and eighth games in the series were both pretty challenging in their own aspect and strategy was used a lot more often in order to progress and be victorious. The ninth game had a really challenging Final Boss but it seemed to be a bit easier than it’s previous brethren. The tenth title and Final Fantasy X-2 were both really simplistic in terms of challenge and the release of Final Fantasy XII was no different. So we are left with the biggest question, is Final Fantasy XIII going to follow suit? More »

When i briefly heard about a new Front Mission game coming out, nostalgia filled my brain. Thoughts of sitting with my PlayStation in my living room delving into one of the first strategy RPG’s I ever experienced got me all tingling inside. We all have that one special game that opened up our gaming world to a whole new genre, and for me, Front Mission 3 was it. So you could only imagine my level of excitement when I heard about Front Mission: Evolved coming out this spring. You would probably imagine correctly, at least until I found out it was a third person action title. More »

The best way to watch a movie is to best match your surroundings to that of a movie theatre: dimmed lights, reclined seat, cranked volume, and the smell of popcorn in the air. The atmosphere is half the experience after all. The same goes for playing video games. The thing with games is that the same setting isn’t always optimum for the game you’re playing. A game like Modern Warfare 2 is best enjoyed with a bunch of rambunctious friends; the louder and crazier the festivities, the more fun you’ll have. But say you want to play some Mass Effect. Well, that changes everything. The lights must be dimmed, the volume at 11, and you must be in the comfiest of chairs wrapped in your warmest blanket. More »
