Madden NFL ‘11 is doing something special with its newest cover athlete; they are letting the fans choose who it will be. Tennessee Titans’ running back Chris Johnson is running his mouth claiming, “No one else to be there [on the cover] but me.” Why is he so bitter you ask? It’s probably because Madden didn’t even include him in the running! More »

Sorry PS3 and Xbox bound hockey fans you won’t be able to get your gloved mitts on NHL 2K11 any time soon. Take-Two Entertainment has made the odd decision not to release NHL 2K11 outside of the Nintendo Wii. The developer has decided to take the year off from the other two consoles in order to focus their efforts on the multi-platform NHL 2K12. This doesn’t quite add up to me. And is the Wii really the system developers are going to for sports titles now? Really? More »

The best way to watch a movie is to best match your surroundings to that of a movie theatre: dimmed lights, reclined seat, cranked volume, and the smell of popcorn in the air. The atmosphere is half the experience after all. The same goes for playing video games. The thing with games is that the same setting isn’t always optimum for the game you’re playing. A game like Modern Warfare 2 is best enjoyed with a bunch of rambunctious friends; the louder and crazier the festivities, the more fun you’ll have. But say you want to play some Mass Effect. Well, that changes everything. The lights must be dimmed, the volume at 11, and you must be in the comfiest of chairs wrapped in your warmest blanket. More »

Sensible Soccer was released in 1992, and whilst playing modern FIFA games it can be a bit funny to think back at the first FIFA, FIFA International Soccer (a.k.a. FIFA 94), released in 1993 - a mere year after Sensible Soccer! Though the hype was better than the game, it did have some original features, like the isometric view. Because of that view being much more zoomed in than other views utilized at the time, FIFA 94 was graphically one of the best games of that era. But the lack of gameplay made it drown in between loads of better games. However, the FIFA series didn’t die. Not at all… More »

Sensible World of Soccer was made by the British developer Sensible Software, whose first footy game was the first footy game that had so-called banana shot, namely Microprose Soccer. Though being one of the smoothest games at its time, it can’t even begin to compare with the mammoth of a game that Sensible World of Soccer is - but, a mighty fine game at its time, I’ll give it that much.

Its biggest rival was to be released the following year: the almighty Kick Off. Completely revolutionizing the genre with an actually independent ball instead of the oh so familiar ball glued to the feet formula. Kick Off sported the same top-down perspective camera as Microprose Soccer, as well as a just as quick and brutal gameplay with smooth controls and a teeny weeny more nice looking graphics. More »
